Want to try something new? See Iceland from a different perspective? Enjoy Icelandic nature in a unique way!
A 2 day exciting adventure sailing on Haukur or Hildur, Iceland’s only schooners, offers you close encounter with nature, interesting historic sites, magnificent midnight sun, sail training, whale & bird watching & so much more.
Departure from Húsavík at 09:00 where the morning is spent whale watching in Skjálfandaflói. Around noon we dock at Flatey Island and take a guided tour around the island where birds, geology and flora are the highlights of the visit. Lunch is served on board before hoisting up the sails and sailing towards Grímsey, a small island 40 kilometres (25 mi) north of Iceland, situated directly on the Arctic Circle.
Before mooring at Grímsey we fish for dinner and the catch is prepared and barbecued onboard. Evening at leisure.
After breakfast we head for a sightseeing tour on Grímsey Island. Grímsey is the northernmost inhabited Icelandic territory. There are steep cliffs everywhere except on the southern shoreline. Though treeless, the island's vegetation cover is rich, consisting of marshland, grass, and moss, and the island is home to many birds, especially auks. If weather permits, we take you on a zodiac trip to explore the bird cliffs and sea caves on the eastern part of the island. Return sail to Húsavík around 18:00.
