Just overthree hours away from Iceland lies a different world, in the remote town of Ilulissat in Greenland. Get familiar with this traditional Greenlandic town north of the Polar Circle and see the floating icebergs on the unique Disco Bay.
Ilulissat means ‚iceberg‘ in Greenlandic and is aptly named. When approaching the town by air, you‘ll be able to see icebergs that have broken off the ice sheet sail through the Kangia icefjord. The icefjord is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2004, and old hunter settlements are also found nearby, in the Sermermiut valley. Iluilssat is also the home of some 3500 husky sled dogs, which play a crucial part of daily life and culture in Greenland.
Many optional excursions are available from Ilulissat, whether by foot, boat, or air.
